In 2021, 25 Kenyan professionals from diverse sectors participated in a one-month course on “Strengthening Policy Dialogue to Accelerate SDGs Implementation” in Copenhagen, Denmark. Organized by the DANIDA Fellowship Centre (DFC) with the support of the Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, and facilitated by INKA Consult, this training equipped the 25 participants with vital policy dialogue tools, stakeholder engagement strategies, and action planning frameworks.
The SDGs Champions Accelerator & Strategy Summit 2025
The 25 DFC fellows developed action plans for their organizations and one joint action plan, whose implementation is ongoing with the support of the Danish Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. Since then, these 25 fellows, commonly referred to as the “SDG Champions,” have driven various initiatives across legislative houses, civil society, and communities to implement their individual work plans.
Collectively, the 25 fellows have implemented their joint initiative to establish and host the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Village, in line with the aspirations of the decade of action, through the multi-stakeholder engagement at the People Dialogue Festival (PDF). The SDGs village has been organised four times at the People Dialogue Festival in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 with the support of the Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi. The SDGs village is convened as a platform for inclusive dialogue on the implementation of the SDGs, enabling stakeholders to explore local strategies, share experiences, and reflect on the progress made towards realizing the SDGs. The 25 SDG champions, through their organizations/ institutions and individually, have contributed immensely to the growth of the SDGs Village through their local and national level networks.
However, with Kenya still facing challenges in SDG acceleration, the 25 champions urgently need to evaluate past impact, realign strategies, and mobilize resources to implement the joint initiative more effectively as we near 2030.

Against this background, the SDGs Champions Accelerator and Strategy Summit was held on July 3rd and 4th, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya with the objectives to;
- Assess Measurable Progress: Identify the joint initiative’s success areas and shortcomings and document its best practices.
- Develop a 3-Year SDG Action Plan: Create a roadmap outlining concrete policy recommendations, advocacy goals, and scalable projects for 2025–2028.
- Expand the SDG Champions Network: Formalize the network into a structured platform for sustained collaboration and advocacy.
- Enhance Multi-Sector Partnerships: Engage key stakeholders (government, private sector, donors) to co-create SDG acceleration strategies.
- Secure Funding & Resources: Mobilize financial and technical support for implementation and scale-up of SDG initiatives.
